I'm sure some of you are saying that there are no such things as ghosts… We have searched the US to bring you the creepiest of spooky properties, and some of the unexplained events, that have transpired there. Still don't believe us? Then go ahead - we dare you to stay overnight at one of these real haunted houses!

Chelsea Hotel
Chelsea Hotel
The infamous Chelsea Hotel in New York City is one of the area's spookiest landmarks. Built in 1884, the hotel has been residence to many notable writers, musicians and artists over the years.
Even even though a lot of of its most renowned occupants have died since then, guests claim to have spotted the apparitions of Dylan Thomas, Eugene O'Neill and Thomas Wolfe.

Winchester Mystery House
Winchester Mystery House
The Winchester Mystery House is a 160-room Victorian mansion bristling with bizarre architectural characteristics and a incredibly eerie origin. With features such as secret passageways, labyrinth-like winding hallways and a seance area, this eccentric home is rumored to have been constructed for the spirits themselves.

The Amityville House
Amityville House
In 1974, six members of the DeFeo family had been found slain in this house. Eldest son Ronald DeFeo Jr. was later convicted of murdering his parents and siblings. A year later, the Lutz family moved in but hastily moved back out after reports of unexplained paranormal activity — odd odors, unexplained cold drafts and an apparition that took the shape of a demonic pig-like creature.

The Cassadaga Hotel
The town of Cassadaga is known worldwide for its spiritualist community and paranormal activity. The Cassadaga Hotel sits at the center of this creepy little town, which is otherwise dotted with old cottages that are the homes for the many mediums, psychics and other spiritualists who reside there. The hotel, which houses a number of spirits, also contains a quite powerful energy vortex that even skeptics have admitted to feeling.

The White House
Spooky White House
For years there have been reports that the White House is a hotbed of paranormal activity. Visitors, staff and even White House residents have reported seeing the spirits of Abraham Lincoln, Abigail Adams and Andrew Jackson, to name a handful of. FDR, Dwight Eisenhower and Winston Churchill are among these who claimed to have been visited by the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. A lot more recently, the Obamas claim to have repeatedly heard strange sounds and felt a sensation of something gnawing at their feet in the middle of the night.

Myrtles Plantation

Myrtles Plantation
Well known as "1 of the most haunted houses in America," the Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville is one of the single most creepiest of locations in the South. Legend has it that ever since the home was constructed in 1797, dozens of deaths have occurred from illness, poisoning and murder. Visitors and former residents claim to have witnessed numerous strange occurrences: disappearing jewelry, waking to discover themselves fully tucked into their beds, furniture that moves on its own, a grand piano that plays by itself, mysterious hand prints and objects and people appearing and disappearing randomly in photographs of the property.

The Joshua Ward House
Joshua Ward House
Once the dwelling of wealthy sea captain Joshua Ward, the Joshua Ward House was constructed in 1784 and originally owned by George Corwin, the Higher Sheriff in the time of the Salem Witch Trials. For many years, Corwin's remains had been contained in the basement, even though they were eventually moved to a nearby cemetery. Rumor has it that Corwin's spirit nonetheless haunts the property.

The LaLaurie House
The LaLaurie Mansion
One of the spookiest residences in the French Quarter, the LaLaurie Mansion was home to Dr. Louis and Delphine LaLaurie, a socially prominent couple in the early 1830s. Rumor has it that Delphine treated her slaves brutally, chaining the cook to the stove, chasing a further slave girl with a whip and causing her to leap to her death, and torturing and mutilating a lot of others in a secret attic space. The home, which was owned by actor Nicolas Cage from 2007 to 2009, has been haunted by screams of agony coming from the apparitions of Delphine's slaves ever since.

Franklin Castle
Franklin Castle
Constructed in 1865 for the Tiedemann family members, Franklin Castle tends to make a spooky 1st impression with its sandstone exterior, round corner tower and gargoyle fixtures. Those who have been inside the mansion, which is recognized locally as the most haunted property in Ohio, claim to have seen an eerie lady in black staring out the tower window, little children crying and strange happenings like doors flying off the hinges and spinning lights. The probable reason? Four of the Tiedemann kids died in the home, and owner Hannes Tiedemann was rumored to have killed his 13-year-old niece in a hidden passage and his mistress in the tower.

The Whaley House
The Whaley House
Now a museum run by the Save Our Heritage Organisation, San Diego's Whaley Residence was designated an official Haunted House by the U.S. Division of Commerce in the 1960s due to regularly heard heavy footsteps of the spirit of "Yankee Jim" Robinson, who was hung on the property in 1852 before the home was constructed. Other paranormal sightings involve owners Thomas and Anna Whaley (Anna was reportedly seen by Regis Philbin), and even the household dog.
The Lemp Mansion
The Lemp Mansion
The luxurious Lemp mansion, built in St. Louis in the 1860s, was home to the William Lemp family, who had been wealthy brewers with a tendancy for suicide. 4 Lemp family members of several generations committed suicide — three in the Lemp mansion itself. Named 1 of America's most haunted houses in 1980 by Life magazine, the mansion is at present a restaurant and inn that presents paranormal tours of the dwelling.

Villisca Ax Murder House
Villisca Ax Murder House
On June 12, 1912, all six members of the Moore household and two young house guests had been located chopped to death by an ax in their residence, turning this quiescent setting into the scene of a grisly crime. The murderer was never identified, but the property in Villisca still boasts wandering spirits, children's crying voices and a door that mysteriously opens and closes. Nowadays, the home is open for daytime tours and overnight sleepovers — if you dare.
